Robert Montano

Today we gather to honor and celebrate the life of my dad, Robert Montano a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who went home peacefully on February 12th, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by the family, friends, and grandchildren he loved so deeply. He was born on May 16th, 1951, in Tucumcari, New Mexico to Mike Montano and Pauline Montano-Sanchez. From those humble beginnings, he built a life marked by hard work, faith, music, and deep love for his family. Dad was a hardworking man. He worked as a car detailer and in many different trades throughout his life. No matter the job, he gave it his all. But many knew him best for something that truly lit him up, his gift for music. He was a skilled drummer who played for many bands over the years. His rhythm wasn’t just heard; it was felt. More than just playing music, he used his gift to serve God. He was an active member of his church, ministering faithfully as a drummer on the worship team. He didn’t just keep the beat, he helped lead worship. Through his music, he brought joy, encouragement, and the presence of faith into so many lives. Dad loved classic cars, drag races, fishing trips, long drives, and cheering on the Denver Broncos. He had a great sense of humor and countless friends. He could make people laugh easily, and he had a way of making everyone feel welcomed. He was beloved by so many because he genuinely loved people. But above all else, he loved his family. He was a wonderful husband. A devoted father. A proud grandfather and great-grandfather. Nothing made him happier than being surrounded by those he loved. The fact that he passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family, is a reflection of the life he lived full of love and connection. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike Montano and Pauline Sanchez; brother, Michael Montano; and infant son, Robert Montano. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Martha Montano; children, Angela (Cono), Joseph, Anthony, Vertuccio, Roberta (TJ) DeHerrera, Pete Rodriguez and Lucila Rodriguez; grandchildren, Larisa DeHerrera, Leticia DeHerrera, Santiago Rodriguez, Roman Rodriguez, Gabriel Mann, Marcellus Lendsen, Hailia Lendsey and Z’hane Lendsey; great grandchildren, Azariah DeHerrera, Isaiah Vigil and Nathaniel Finley; siblings, Michael (Veloy) Montano, Ruben (Shirley) Montano, Richard (Melissa) Montano and Charlie (Patty) Montano; fur babies, Nano and Bogi; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Dad leaves behind a legacy of faith, music, laughter, strength, and unconditional love. Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the 74 years we were blessed to have him. His rhythm may be quiet now, but the beat of his life continues in each of us. We will miss him deeply. We will love him always. And we will carry his memory in our hearts forever.
