Rebecca Herrera

Rebecca “Becky” Herrera, of Colorado Springs, slipped away quietly to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Saturday, October 4, 2025. Becky is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Herrera and Lydia Martinez-Herrera; brother, Johnny Herrera; Sister, Katie Encinias; and nephews Richard Encinias and Christopher Herrera. She is survived by her sister, Alvina “Vi” Martinez; and Brothers Robert “Bob” (Sandy) Herrera, Roger Herrera, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Becky was never married and never had children of her own but to many in her life, she was a mother or second mother. After their mother Lydia passed away suddenly at the age of 39, she was thrust into motherhood at the young age of 18. With only an 8th grade education but a strong work ethic, Becky took charge of raising Roger and Johnny through their formidable teenage years. Known as “Sergeant Carter” by Roger and Johnny, she was a hard-nosed but very loving mother figure, bending over backwards to take care of them on her salary as a hospital housekeeper. To many of her nieces, nephews, and younger cousins, she was like a second mother to them. In life, the things that Becky enjoyed most were her sweet foods, glamping in South Fork, walking for exercise, and yard sales and flea markets. The thing that she loved most, however, was spending time with family. Nothing was better to her than doing the things that she enjoyed and doing it with her family. Becky especially loved all the babies of the family. Every time the young ones would come over to visit, Becky’s face would just light up. Becky was known for her Christmas gifts to family also. As kids she loved giving McDonalds gift certificates to her nieces and nephews. She also loved giving gift cards to the older kids to their favorite restaurants. Becky was especially close to her sister Vi. They were a “monkey see, monkey do” kind of couple growing up and they spent the last twenty or so years of Becky’s life living together. A lot of her senior years were spent watching her favorite game shows on the Game Show Network and national news networks in the evenings. The one she loved most in life was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For the last 20 years of her life, she enjoyed going to Sunday church services and she would always express her readiness for the Lord to take her home. She has finally received the gift that she wanted most in life and all the family and friends that loved her very much will miss her deeply.
