Phyliss Taylor

Born to Roy Larrew and Ruth Aides on October 22, 1942, Phyliss grew up in the small eastern Colorado town of Fowler. Phyliss was 1 of 14 children and enjoyed telling stories of her upbringing. In the late 1950's Phyliss started in the food industry when she became a server at the restaurant, Mother's Kitchen. In the 1960's Phyliss ran the auction cafe in Fowler, serving many of the ranch and farm population. Phlyiss would later be known as the face of Mother's Kitchen as owner and operator. Known for good food and amazing cinnamon rolls, many memories were made at the restaurant with patrons and family alike. Licensed in cosmetology in 1982, Phyliss had a passion for the cosmetology world. In 1997 Phyliss moved to Walsenburg Colorado where she pursued this passion full time. While in Walsenburg Phyliss opened and ran her own beauty shop, House of Curls. She ran her shop until her retirement in 2022. Phyliss spent a lot of time serving the Walsenburg community doing hair, nails, and offering tanning services. Her favorite saying and one she has used since her teen years is "Your hair is your crown." Throughout the years Phyliss continued to do her own hair and nails, cut her son's hair, as well as do first haircuts for many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her spare time Phyliss enjoyed crafts, oil painting, cross stitching, and the most near and dear to her heart, crocheting. She spent many hours crocheting blankets for grandchildren and other family members. Phyliss was a pillar of strength and perseverance. Her strength and love will live on through her children, grandchildren, and beyond. Phyliss dedicated her life to serving others and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Phyliss is survived by her sons Keith (Gloria) Varner, Andrew "Wayne" (Kim) Varner; siblings Joyce Pfieffer, Leland (Mary Jean) Larrew, Randy (Fran) Larrew; Grandchildren Erica Palacio, Tiffany (Harley) Cole, Jeff Varner, Erika (Jason) Shepard, Christy (Josh) Howard, Michelle (Owen) Shrout, Nolan (Marissa) Maize, Zach Maize, Jayla (JT) Frampton, Acelynn (Josh) Japhet, Hunter (Mylee) Ratzlaff, numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Proceeded in death by her parents Roy and Ruth Larrew; son Jerry "Glenn" Varner, first husband Andrew "Andy" Varner, and numerous siblings.
