Sista Rebecca Montoya

Sista Rebecca Montoya, 89, passed away unexpectedly at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, CO on August 7, 2023. The eleventh child of Jose Sabino Gutierrez and Juanita (Pacheco) Gutierrez. Sista was born on March 9, 1934, in Antonito, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband Filiberto Montoya; parents; brothers; Leopoldo, Salvador, Orlando, Samuel, Emiterio, Antonio, and Jose Bernabe; sisters: Siria, Luisa and Edulia; son-in-law Peter Medina; and granddaughter Renee Medina. Sista is survived by her children Angelo (Kathy) Montoya, Farmington, NM; Monica Medina, Denver, CO; Kim Montoya (Javier), Colorado Springs, CO; and Fabian (Patricia) Montoya, Pueblo, CO; grandchildren Brianne (Jose) Gallegos and Adrian Medina, Denver, CO; Amanda Montoya, Farmington, NM; and Sara (Chris) Romero, Albuquerque, NM; great-grandchildren; Savannah Medina; Natalie and Huston Downs, Eden Romero, Alyssa Medina, and 1 on the way! Siblings Carol (Richard) Gallegos, Conejos, CO; Trinidad Pacheco, Antonito, CO, Louisa Herrera, Alamosa, CO; brother-in-law, Ben Tafoya, Denver, CO, and numerous nephews and nieces. Sista was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a strong woman of faith, a true servant of the Lord and a dedicated prayer warrior, always faithfully praying for her family and friends. She was a member of Cathedral of the Sacred Heart where she started the first Spanish mass and choir. She ushered at the church, mentored many members, and held leadership positions with the Legion of Mary. She enjoyed doing puzzles, color painting, and loved posting on Facebook. Her cat Whiskers was the best emotional support animal for her and never left her side. She touched the hearts of those she met but more than anything, she was there for her brothers and sisters and loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grand & great-grandchildren. She will be forever loved and deeply missed by those she leaves behind. Rosary, 6:00 pm, Thursday, August 17, 2023. Mass of Resurrection, 9:30 am Friday, August 18, 2023, both at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Pueblo, CO. Interment will follow service, Imperial Memorial Gardens.
