Ruben Leonard Romero

Ruben “Leonard” Romero, 86, of Pueblo was granted his wings on March 19, 2024. Leonard is preceded in death by his wife, Rhonda (Smerjac) Romero; parents, Miguel Romero-Zamora, and Carolina (Sandoval) Romero-Zamora. Siblings, Mickey, Eddie, Ramon, Larry, and sister Carol Roldan. He is survived by his stepson Michael (Lisa) Deming and their 3 daughters, Taylor, Annika, and Sierra of Cedar City, Utah. Sister-in-Law, LaLa Holm. Brothers, Arthur Romero, and Phillip Romero. Upon Rhonda’s passing in March 2021, his nephew Daniel (Linda) Romero moved into Leonard’s home to provide care for him daily. Daniel (Danny) was his full-time caregiver and guardian. He was assisted by his brother Johnny Ray Romero and sister Lillian (Rick) Lucero. Without their help, it would not have been possible. Leonard is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends. Leonard was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post #2, in Pueblo. Leonard loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and Rhonda spent a lot of their time out camping and boating around the State of Colorado. One of their favorite spots was Blue Mesa Reservoir in Gunnison as well as Lake Pueblo. The family would like to give special thanks to First Light Home Care and specifically their caregiver, Leslie Collins. Leslie provided such meticulous care; the family and Leonard were very appreciative of her. The Veterans Administration and the Primary Based Home Care Team of Patty Head, N.P., Mike Harvey, R.N., Rebecca Tatman, LCSW, Carissa Ah Yo, Dietician and Clarissa Tenido, Occupational Therapist, and Dr. Chris Volado. These individuals visited Leonard on a regular basis and made sure that he was well taken care of for all his ancillary and medical needs. A special thank you to Marilyn Kinniston, Leonard and Rhonda’s next-door neighbor for her devotion and friendship to them both. Marilyn and Rhonda were the best of friends and when Rhonda passed, Marilyn provided care for Leonard until such a time that Daniel was able to get moved in and take over. For this, we will be forever grateful for her friendship and love. We would also like to acknowledge and thank Sangre De Cristo Hospice for their support and care of Leonard. Leonard will be interred at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs later. Leonard will be deeply missed by all those who loved him. We are not saying goodbye, only that we will see you in the next life. Fly high with the Angels, Hermano y Tio!
