Josephine Mae Pacheco

Josephine Mae Pacheco, 84 passed away peacefully on September 5, 2016. Upon realizing her condition she characteristically accepted her fate with great strength and conviction finally succumbing to stomach cancer. A longtime resident of Pueblo, CO she was born on what was likely a cold winter day in Cheyenne, WY on December 15, 1931 to the union of James Compos and Sophie Taylor. She is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, 6 younger siblings, sister Jo’Ann, brothers Sonny, Danny, Alvin, JoJo, Bobby, 2 sons Joey and Jody, 1 granddaughter Gail. She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years - Juan Patricio Pacheco, their marriage brought forth 68 descendants. She is also survived by 3 siblings, sisters Joyce, Soyla, Leo, 6 children, John Jr, James, Jerald, Jay, Charlene and Jolene, 23 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. After moving, as a young girl, with her family to Pueblo from Cheyenne she culminated her education after attending Keating Jr. High where she completed her 9th grade year, she left school in order to help support her struggling immediate family. She met Juan in Pueblo where they were married on March 29, 1948, she was married at the tender age of 16 and never looked back. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. As a mother she had a heart of gold, she was loving, understanding, caring and giving, she was a counselor, a mentor, a disciplinarian instilling in all of her children and grandchildren invaluable morals, ethics and values. Never afraid to speak the truth, she spoke her mind and was unabated by differing opinions. Always recognizing her faults she was objective and self correcting but also extremely subjective when necessary. She was exemplary in the values she preached, leading and living by example. Her work ethic was reflected by the devotion to her husband and her family, exhibiting an unselfish and unceasing care and attention to identifying and acquiring their needs. She worked and struggled to acquire those provisions, meals, a clean house, clean clothes all the chores and toil required by a demanding and growing family. Our Mother, she was the salt of the earth and we will miss her dearly.
