Gilbert Ronald Maes

Gilbert Ronald Maes, 83, of Pueblo, CO went to be with the Lord on August 18, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Nora Maes. Siblings, Andrew Maes, Max Maes, Marie Chavez, Dolores (Dee Dee) Castro, Alonzo Maes and Theresa Martinez. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Josie Maes. Children, Christina (Stanley) Horton, Carol (Mark) Lopez, and Tricia (Lawrence) Florez; Seven grandchildren, Phillip “Philly Phil”, Samantha (Daniel), Sabrina “Byrd” (Luis), Serrena, Maurice, Raymond, and Elisia (Carlos); Ten great grandchildren, Elaina, Monet, Mya, Darien, Emilio, Armondo, Irie, Motakai, Leonardo and Isabella; siblings; Jennie, Jessie, and Tommy; numerous nieces & nephews, extended family and friends. Ronnie was a proud Veteran of the US Army, who loved reminiscing with his family and friends about his service in Germany. Beans and green chili were always his favorite, but the meal never felt complete until he treated himself to a sweet dessert afterward. He’ll always be remembered for his great sense of humor he loved making others laugh and could lift our spirits with ease with his quick wit and playful spirit. Ron had a gift for filling a room with laughter. Family was at the center of Ron’s life. He was proud of his children, and he loved them dearly but when it came to his grandchildren, they were his pride and joy. They brought out the brightest smile in him, the kind that filled the whole room. Ron leaves us with countless memories, and though we’ll miss him tremendously, the love he gave all of us will live on forever. Ron had a passion for driving whether it was for work, vacation or to just “go up the hill!”. He loved to gamble and be outdoors, including dancing in the rain, cleaning up the yard, hunting, camping, and fishing. Sunday was for church and the Broncos, after breakfast he would cook for his love, Josie! Ron held Josie dearly in his heart, his love for her enduring beyond time and memory. He may have left this world, but his love for his Josie endures beyond it a love eternal, still felt, still present, still guiding. Ron was always the life of the party, he loved his people. If he wasn’t making yall laugh or giggle, he was making you cry, because he was such a loving, emotional person who always expressed his love for you! No matter the challenges he faced, Ron never wavered, maintaining his faith until his final moment, he showed us what it means to live.
