Freda R. Sharp-McLeod

Freda R. Sharp McLeod, born August 24, 1928, to Frank L. Sharp and Oleava G. Sharp (Cline) in Texhoma, OK, was 1 of 12 children. Freda passed from this life on February 8, 2017, in Pueblo CO. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank L. Sharp and Oleava G. Sharp (Cline); husband Harold McLeod; son Ronald Boyd; siblings and in-laws: Wynema Sharp, Glendora Sharp, April Sharp, Leon and Mary Sharp, Eldon and Mable Sharp, Richard Sharp, Clyta and Frank Walton, Ruby and Francis Burger, Ellen and Jack Coates, Harold Post, Gary Cotton, Fred Barrett; nephew Dennis Sharp and nieces Rosemary Jacques and Kay McElreath. She is survived by her sisters Gerlene Barrett and Betty Cotton, sister-in-law Eilene Rose, and her children Linda (Darryl) Beaven and Patrick (Marianna) Boyd, 7 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. When Freda was 8 years old the family moved from Oklahoma to Canon City, CO. It was in Canon City that she met her first husband, Lee Boyd. Freda and Lee moved to Pueblo, CO, and her family grew to include her 3 children: Ronald, Linda and Patrick. Freda began working at Parkview Medical Center and then took her skills to the Colorado State Hospital (now CMHIP). While working at CMHIP and raising her 3 children, Freda was given the honor of being selected to receive a scholarship from CMHIP that allowed her to continue working and attend Southern Colorado State College (now CSU-Pueblo) to earn a bachelor degree in nursing, which was one of her proudest accomplishments. While working at CMHIP she met and married her second husband, Harold McLeod. She retired from the Colorado State Hospital after working there for more than 31 years. After her retirement she continued her nursing career for several years by working at Penrose St. Francis Hospital and Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. Freda’s pride and joy was her home in Colorado Springs. She loved working on her home and in her yard developing her iris beds. Freda enjoyed crocheting and quilting (especially those special afghans and quilts she gave family members), she collected all the Robin Cook books, was a Denver Broncos fan, and loved her dogs and cats. She self published Arctic Breeders Registry for several years to help people find quality breeders of cats and dogs. Family was very important to Freda. She loved family get-togethers and held a New Year’s Day dinner at her home in Colorado Springs for the family including her sister Betty’s (Post/Cotton) family and her daughter-in-law’s family every year as long as she was able. She also enjoyed hosting family Bronco parties. Freda will be forever loved and missed by all who have been blessed to know her.
