Delores M. Huaracha

Delores Marie Huaracha, of Chappell, NE, passed away December 3, 2023, peacefully, at her daughter’s home in Colorado, surrounded by her children. Delores was born December 26, 1941, in Julesburg, Colorado, to parents Rosenda and Pricilla Rivera. She was the oldest of 10 children. On February 27, 1960, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Lupe Huaracha Sr., and to this union, 5 children were born. Delores was many things in her life, a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. True to her Native American heritage, Delores embodied the four common virtues of the Sioux- bravery, fortitude, generosity and wisdom. Delores was a compass to her children and grandchildren alike, both a fortress of strength and a sea of tranquility in their lives. She was stern when needed, never afraid to speak her truth, but compassionate and soft in the ways only a mother can be. Over the past summer, a celebration of life was held at her daughter’s home in Colorado, as Delores wished to have time with her family and friends which were always the cornerstone of her life. They shared memories, laughter, tears, music, food, and above all, love. Anyone who truly knew Delores, knew there was never a shortage of the latter. Whether it be love shown through a hug, a side-eye that she had mastered at what seemed to be a very early age, a freshly warmed homemade tortilla slathered in butter, or a lecture you didn’t want but deep down knew you needed. Delores brought to any relationship her strength and loyalty and will always be remembered for having an abundance of both. “My prayer is that I may always be prepared to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes, so that when my life ends as gracefully as a sunset, I may do so without regret.” Delores is survived by her son, Lupe Huaracha Jr. and wife Deb; daughters, JoLene` and husband Rick Pflugrad; Shannon and husband Dave Lewis; Barbara and husband Jeff Madrid; April (wife of Andrew Huaracha); 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Lupe Huaracha Sr. and son Andrew Huaracha. Cremation has taken place and there will be a graveside service at a later date.
