Bernice Lyonella Algien

Bernice L. Algien, a most beloved wife and mother, ascended from this world on March 23, 2024, at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Farley. She is survived by Nathan D. Algien, her loving husband of 74 years, 3 children, Nathan J. Algien, Debra (Stephen) Lucas, Lynn (Michael) Ferris, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Bernice had an insatiable zest for life which made her an extraordinary force of nature. She would wake up every morning and exclaim, "I love my life!" Her love and joy was infectious and evident in everything she did. Bernice was a natural born caregiver whose tender-loving care was boundless and ceaseless. And the kindness and wisdom she brought to every relationship left lasting impressions on them of what an extraordinary person she was. People were naturally drawn to her. They quickly came to see that not only was she a straight shooter but that she led with her heart. In her career as a Registered Nurse, that spanned more than 23 years, her good-natured spirit, joy and wisdom impacted the lives of everyone who entered her sphere. She is held in their hearts with warmth and smiles. Bernice was a highly sociable person, she loved meeting new people and forging new bonds, many that lasted her whole life. People were drawn to her because she was open and kind....she led with her heart. Bernice was not without faults and like all of us, she sometimes had differences with those she loved that put her at odds with them. However, what set her apart was that she, more often than not, was the one to take the first step toward mending their ties and letting by-gones be by-gones. That was a great example for me to witness over and over again, throughout my lifetime. Bernice's middle name (which she disliked) is Lyonella, which is French for Lion Cub. I don't believe my mother was ever a cub...her childhood didn't allow for much of that, but she is definitely a Lion and one of the fiercest and most courageous people I have ever known. She was an exemplary standard to her children, especially her daughters. As a modern woman and mother her example set the standard, for my sisters, myself and many of our friends, of what living from your unwavering love, courage, integrity and morals looked like. She was a fierce and beautiful Lioness. Even though she is in spirit now - Bernice lives on and through those who truly loved and knew her...her Essence was always the personification of a love-everlasting. Words cannot express the love and gratitude we feel for you...our beloved, beautiful Bernice. May your joy be ever greater and shine upon us, even brighter, now.
