Romero Family Funeral Home will notify the Social Security Administration about the death. The spouse or next of kin need to follow-up by visiting the local office or calling 1-800-772-1213 with regard to information about their benefits.
The following information may need to be provided:
Social security number of the decedent and the social security number of the person applying for benefits.
- Certified Death Certificate
- Last two years W2 forms
Currently, Social Security provides a one-time lump sum benefit of $255.00, which the surviving spouse of the deceased may be eligible to receive. Any questions about dependent’s benefits need to be directed to the social security office.
